Thanks for asking!
Harp&Bowl Coffee Co. started in 2020 as a way for us (Joseph & Andy) to serve coffee at our friends weddings and events who kept asking. As life got busier and we continued to advance in our coffee careers, we decided that Harp&Bowl needed to become something serious or be left in the past, we’re both really stoked with our decision to say the least!
Meet Joseph
Joseph began drinking coffee in 2018 with the resolution to enjoy it black. Lucky for him his college coffee shop served specialty coffee and it wasn’t long for him to acquire the taste of floral ethiopias and fruity colombias. Not long after, Joseph trekked to Guatemala to apprentice under a seasoned coffee roaster and long time cafe owner. While there, Joseph got to meet numerous coffee farmers, learn hands on green coffee production and gain an extensive understanding of terroir. Since then, Joseph managed the shop he fell in love with coffee at, helping it thrive for 2 years before moving on to confidently pursue Harp&Bowl.
Meet Andy
Coincidentally, Andy’s specialty coffee journey also began in 2018 while working at a larger coffee chain; after finding out that a macchiato wasn’t what his employer told him it was, he was propelled to learn more about specialty coffee. Soon after, Andy quit his job and unknowingly started his career at a small local specialty cafe. Since then, he has worked at a handful of coffee companies, slinging spro, training new staff and even helping develop barista training programs. Andy received the opportunity to learn coffee roasting under the mentorship of former Director-of-Coffee of Bird Rock Coffee Roasters, equipping him alongside Joseph to bring Harp&Bowl Coffee Co. to life.
The Goal of Harp&Bowl
Excellent Coffee.
Harp&Bowl exists to find the most excellent coffees we can and share them with everyone. Every release we present has been chosen because we believe that it’s notable and not just another coffee. We look for uniqueness, exciting flavor characteristics, stereotype breakers, sweetness, complexity, and overall high quality. To put it in the words of Joseph, “We’re looking for tasty gems.” Additionally, an equal value is placed on traceability and treating farmers well, that’s why all of our listings have something to share about where the coffee came from and what the producers, washing stations, or co-ops are achieving.
We dream to be a part of renovating the specialty coffee industry by creating ways help producers thrive and enable their development, educate everyone around us about specialty coffee, brewing, and even roasting. We hope you’ll come along on this journey with us as we continue to learn, grow, and experience specialty coffee in new ways. We love y’all!
